I’m Melissa Oomer
As a Director at FSG, a mission-driven consulting firm, I spent my time coaching communities and foundations on how to collaborate better to get results using collective impact and other models. My work touched nonprofits, public agencies, foundations, and philanthropists solving a wide variety of problems in behavioral health / substance use, juvenile justice, the social determinants of health, poverty reduction, aging, and community transformation. I also spent a year living and working in India, helping to develop approaches to increase access to insulin among low-income patients with diabetes.
I believe in using both data and evidence as well as consensus-building facilitation tools to gain insights into new ways to solve problems. I have guided many organizations and coalitions to more explicitly embed equity into their internal and external work, including aligning on how to take an approach that addresses disparities by race, gender, and socio-economic status. I started my Co-Active training as a way to take an inquiry-based approach to developing others on my team – and that practice evolved to coaching individuals in other organizations. I am energized by helping people discover their strengths and superpowers as the way to unlock their full potential.
When I am not working, you can find me chasing my two young kids at the beach, riding my bike on the Cape Cod Rail trail, enjoying a good meal prepared by my husband, or planning my next vacation.
